Ornamental motifs drawn from the temple gates and ancestral doorways of old Hanoi are cut from yolk-colored silk taffeta and applied by hand across a floor-length red organza gown. Cap sleeves and a sheer yoke flow from shoulder to bust, where an opaque silk lining begins and holds the red deep and unbroken to the hem. Cut, appliquéd, and finished by hand at the Hanoi atelier.
Care
We recommend professional dry cleaning to preserve the delicate silk and artisanal details of this piece.

The story
HANOIAN GATE
Old Hanoi is a city of gates. Wooden gates carved with dragons and clouds at the entrance of temples. The arched thresholds of ancestral halls. Wrought iron gates on the villas of the French quarter. The ornamental doorways of the Old Quarter, still marked after a century with the old wishes for longevity, welcome, and protection. Diego was drawn to them. Over the decades he spent in Hanoi, gates became a subject that ran through his work well beyond fashion. He designed furniture around their forms, drew their motifs into his sketchbooks, and studied them the way a painter studies a face. This gown carries that language onto silk. Spirals, stylized florals, and a central ornamental medallion at the back are each cut from yolk-colored silk taffeta and applied by hand onto red organza. The sheer yoke opens the fabric at the collar like a courtyard in early light. A gown made in Diego's language, from a city he came to love. Designer Diego Cortizas.
