Indigo Batik Blouse

Indigo Dui Batik

Prezzo scontato$230.00
Size

Fragments of indigo batik gather around the V-neckline of this blouse, each panel framed in white piping and joined as a mosaic. The batik is drawn in the northern Vietnamese tradition of beeswax-resist dyeing, where patterns are traced onto cloth in hot wax before the fabric is dipped in indigo. Dyed in the highlands, joined and finished by hand at the Hanoi atelier.

The story

INDIGO BATIK

Indigo has been the signature color of northern Vietnamese textile life for centuries. In the highland villages of the north, cloth is still dipped by hand into vats of indigo dye, sometimes for days, until the deep blue holds. The oldest patterns are drawn onto the fabric in warm beeswax, using a small copper pen. Where the wax rests, the dye cannot reach, and when the wax is later washed away in hot water, the pale pattern appears against the blue. Every piece of batik is different from the next. The fragments around the neckline of this blouse belong to that tradition. Each panel carries its own pattern of spirals, small florals, and geometric weaves, cut and joined together as a mosaic, framed in white piping so each piece keeps its edge. Cut from Dui in a relaxed silhouette, the blouse falls easily against the body and moves through the day.
