Oyster Linen Woodblock Press

Prezzo scontato$250.00
Size

Across the front of this linen tunic, plump child figures gather in a circular composition, hand-stamped in bright colors and traced in fine embroidered stitches. The pattern continues on the back, and on each pocket the character chữ Thọ, the Vietnamese symbol for longevity, is stamped across the tunic. Stamped, embroidered, and finished by hand at the Hanoi atelier.

The story

BABY BUDDHA

The plump laughing children stamped across this tunic belong to one of Vietnam's oldest folk traditions. In Đông Hồ woodblock prints, they appear again and again, holding fruit, riding buffalo, playing with lotus flowers, always round-cheeked and joyful. Their name in Vietnamese is em bé Đông Hồ, and their meaning is simple: happiness, abundance, and the good fortune of family. Here they gather in a circle. Facing inward, arms across each other's shoulders, they form a wheel of joy, the way children do when a game turns into a dance. It is the kind of composition that has always been made to be given, offered as a wish for a growing family or a household hoping for luck. At the pockets, the character chữ Thọ appears twice, a small closing note: long life. A tunic that carries a full wish. Happiness at the chest, longevity at the hand.
