Along the hem of this linen shirt, a garland of Hội An lanterns rises in bright color, each one hand-stamped with a carved wooden block and finished with fine running-stitch embroidery that traces the bamboo ribs beneath. Cut from white linen that softens with wear. Stamped, embroidered, and finished by hand at the Hanoi atelier.
Care
We recommend a gentle hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Reshape while damp and allow to air dry naturally.

The story
HỘI AN LANTERNS
For centuries, Hội An was Vietnam's great trading port, where Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and European cultures met and wove themselves into the town's streets and lanterns. On the night of every full moon, Hội An still turns off its electric lights and glows only by lantern. This shirt carries a garland of those lanterns along its hem. The round shapes are đèn lồng quả bí, the pumpkin lantern. The elongated ones are đèn lồng củ tỏi, the garlic lantern. Both are silk stretched over curved bamboo ribs, drawn here in mũi đột thưa, the running-stitch embroidery that gives every lantern its structure. The stamp is made in a textile technique inspired by Đông Hồ, Vietnam's centuries-old folk woodblock tradition. Each block is carved by a local Vietnamese woodcarver, inked at the atelier, and pressed onto the linen by hand. A shirt that carries the light of a full-moon night into the everyday.
