Highland Lotus Dress

Verdant Dui Thổ Cẩm Patchwork

Angebot$450.00
Size

A lotus blooms across the neckline of this long dress, its petals cut from thổ cẩm, the hand-woven brocade of the Sa Pa highlands in northern Vietnam. Every fragment is a remnant from a past Chula collection, joined by hand into a single flower. Cut from Dui To in deep green. Woven, cut, and appliquéd by hand at the Hanoi atelier.

Craft

The story

HIGHLAND LOTUS

The lotus, hoa sen, rises from muddy water and blooms above it clean and whole. For centuries it has been Vietnam's symbol of resilience, integrity, and inner strength, carved into temples, painted onto ceramics, embroidered onto ceremonial cloth. Here, that flower is built from fragments. Each petal is a piece of thổ cẩm, the brocade woven for generations by the Mông, Dao, Tày, Giáy, and Xa Phó communities of the Sa Pa highlands. Every one of those fragments is a remnant from a past Chula collection, saved and returned in a new form. A white line runs from the flower down to the hem like a stem, holding the composition together. No two lotuses are the same. Each dress is a single flower composed of many histories, held in the shape of one bloom. Designer Diego Cortizas.
