Size
An áo dài in bamboo taffeta, cut from black silk with white silk panels inset along both sides of the tunic in the shape of 35mm film sprocket holes, hand-stitched at the atelier. High round neckline, sleeveless, floor-length with side slits at the hip. Worn over the traditional matching black silk pants. Part of the Cinema Collection, designed by Laura Fontan Pardo for Vietnam Fashion Week 2025.

The story
THE FILM
Designed by Laura Fontan Pardo for the Cinema Collection at Vietnam Fashion Week 2025. The áo dài is the film. Everything the collection has built toward, the countdown, the projector, the audience, the star, the director's cue, arrives here as the film itself, running. Along both sides of the tunic, white silk sprocket holes appear at regular intervals the way they do along the edge of a 35mm reel. When the wearer walks, the film advances. Laura made it the last dress of the collection, and she chose an áo dài. The áo dài is Vietnam's national dress, worn for Tết, for weddings, for graduations, for every occasion in Vietnamese life where a woman wants to be seen at her most herself. Everything else in the collection was drawn in the language of Western cinema, in Hollywood and Anaglyph and Countdown. This piece brings the whole show home. The film Laura wanted to direct her whole life, she made in Vietnam.
