The story

THỌ FLOWER

The character chữ Thọ (壽), meaning long life, appears across Vietnamese decorative tradition in countless stylized forms, carved into temple wood, embroidered onto ancestral cloth, painted onto lacquerware. On this kaftan, those forms are gathered into two blooming compositions: the character rearranged into petals, the wish for longevity in the shape of a flower. The stamp is pressed with mộc bản, the traditional Vietnamese woodblock technique. Each block is hand-carved by a local woodcarver, inked at the atelier, and pressed onto the silk by hand. A second pass in mũi đột thưa running-stitch traces the outline of each bloom. Cut from Dui, a light Dietnamese silk, the kaftan falls in a flowing asymmetrical line and carries a wish for long life in the color of celebration.
