Size
A floor-length gown with a black bamboo taffeta bodice and a silk patchwork skirt printed with the classic film countdown leader, 9 through 5, drawn in black on cream. Each numbered frame is a separate silk panel, cut and joined by hand at the Hanoi atelier the way film reels are spliced. Sleeveless, with a V-back and a side slit at the calf. Part of the Cinema Collection, designed by Laura Fontan Pardo for Vietnam Fashion Week 2025.

COUNTDOWN
Designed by Laura Fontan Pardo for the Cinema Collection at Vietnam Fashion Week 2025. The dress is the opening frame. Before every film, there is a countdown: nine, eight, seven, six, five. A quiet flicker of numbers on the screen as the reel spins into place, the last seconds before the story begins. It is one of the oldest images in cinema, and one of the most anticipatory. The moment when everyone in the theatre understands that something is about to start. Laura made it the first dress of the collection. She has spoken about wanting to become a film director when she was young, and about how, in a designer's studio in Hanoi many years later, she found herself directing anyway. Each dress in the Cinema Collection is a scene. This one is the frame that begins the film. The bodice is the darkness of the theatre before the projector turns on. The skirt is the screen. Each numbered panel is a separate piece of silk, joined by hand the way film reels are spliced together, so that the countdown literally moves down the body one frame at a time.
